“No Quit” Mary T is CFW’s Member of the Month!
Mary’s Story:
“In 2016 I had a stroke which caused paralysis of the left side of my body. It was a fluky reaction to a medication I was prescribed only occurring once in every 400,000 people. I spent 2 months in a rehab hospital which was then followed by another 10 months of outpatient rehab. I was discharged from care 1 year after my stroke. OHIP would no longer cover any rehabilitation costs as it was thought that one year after a brain injury no further improvement could be expected. I could not accept this and continued doing physiotherapy with several therapists who specialized in neuro rehab and I saw a definite improvement and have continued to see improvements even 5 years after my stroke.
During my journey I have tried lots of different things- a long stint in Pilates (effective but boring), personal trainers, osteopathy, acupuncture, and physio. My long-time friend and CFW member Sandy Falco was always supportive and encouraging of my recovery. She would frequently talk about Eddie and Chris and all the wonderful coaches and members at CFW. She felt that there were opportunities for me at CFW given their special interest and training in the role of the brain and neuro function in pain and performance. I resisted for some time but as Sandy listened to me complain about boredom and lack of progress in my recovery she continued to tout CFW as the place for me. I can’t thank her enough for her persistence. Since starting at CFW I have seen improvement again in both my body and mind. The functions class is perfect for me- amazing coaching and encouragement. I can finally have the feeling of satisfaction at finishing a workout. I forgot how much I missed that. I have also found success with the neuro-physio program Chris and Yashar have set up for me. I struggled with the range of motion in my left shoulder. This has improved significantly over the past 6 weeks. I no longer have any shoulder pain when moving my shoulder and I have noticed an improvement in my gait. I am so glad that Yashar has found a way to teach and coach virtually so we can continue to work through COVID lock down.
Most of all I am thankful that I found people who believe as I do that my recovery is not over.”

The top half of this photo show Mary’s ROM results with Coach Chris after just ONE physio centered PT session. The bottom half demonstrate even further ROM improvements with weekly Virtual PT sessions with coach Yash. If you have pain, limitations, mobility issues, etc., we can help. You will see improvements immediately (not after weeks of sessions) and keep them going every week with your customized rehab routine. Be proactive, especially by using your time at home as an advantage, and move your health forward to prepare for our reopening. No excuses (be like Mary)!
